Hahn announces opening of LAX Metro Station

Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board Chair Janice Hahn (D-Long Beach, San Pedro, Diamond Bar, Whittier, Cerritos, Downey, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hacienda Heights) announced on Friday that the new LAX/Metro Transit Center Station will open June 6, 2025.
“The wait is nearly over, Los Angeles,” said Hahn at the monthly meeting of the Metro Board of Directors. “At long last, we are getting a train to LAX. And when the LAX People Mover finally opens, we will truly have an international airport that connects people from inside the terminals to the world beyond through Metro. Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard on making this happen, and see you at the opening on June 6.”
The LAX/Metro Transit Center Station is a new multi-modal transportation hub located at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street in Los Angeles. The station will offer access to both the Metro K and C Lines as well as a 16-bay bus plaza. It will be a direct connection to the LAX Automated People Mover which will provide seamless access between airport terminals when it opens later this year.
The regular Metro fare of $1.75 for a one-way trip will still apply. Once transit riders reach the LAX/ Metro Transit Center station, they can take a free Metro Connector bus shuttle to the airport terminals.
Umberg issues warning in Wisconsin judge arrest

State Sen. Thomas J. Umberg (D-Orange County, portions of Long Beach), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a strong warning of presidential overreach of the judicial branch following Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel’s announcement on X this past Friday that a Wisconsin Judge had been arrested.
“It is a sad day for democracy and the rule of law. Public safety is also deeply undermined when our courthouses become inhospitable, unwelcoming, and dangerous for vulnerable witnesses and parties.
The Trump administration has been threatening the independence of the judicial branch in an effort to consolidate power. The arrest of a state court judge is an escalation of his destruction of our fundamental structure of checks and balances and of our state rights and federalist system. As James Madison wrote in the Federalist papers: “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands…may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
Patel claimed in his post that Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan had been arrested for obstruction of justice for allegedly assisting an immigrant in avoiding arrest after he appeared in her courtroom this week.
Barger gets Van for Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger (R-Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, San Marino, Pasadena, La Cañada-Flintridge, portions of the San Gabriel Valley) on Friday joined the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley to celebrate the unveiling of a $50,000 van funded by her office that will take local youth to educational field trips, sports leagues, summer programs, and college tours.
“This new van isn’t just a means of transportation, but an investment in the future of our youth,” said Barger. “I was proud to invest in this important resource for the local Boys & Girls Club because it will enable children and teens to connect to opportunities that enrich their lives and propel them toward their goals.”
The van will primarily serve youth in the unincorporated communities of Castaic and Val Verde.
Across the Santa Clarita Valley, the Boys & Girls Club has 12 locations and serves more than 2,200 youth.
Beverly Hills launches energy resiliency program

The City of Beverly Hills yesterday launched an energy resiliency pilot program for homeowners and businesses called Power On BH.
This service offers no-cost technical advice to property owners on how they can withstand power outages. The City is partnering with EcoMotion, a national firm with many municipal clients, to provide guidance to property owners and help identify options, including solar generation, critical energy loads, and battery storage. The pilot program is open through June 30.
“I am proud that the City is advancing practical and forward-thinking solutions to strengthen our community’s resilience,” said Mayor Sharona Nazarian. “The Power On electrical resilience program is a meaningful step in ensuring that residents are safer and better prepared in the event of a power outage or emergency. This initiative is yet another important measure to enhance the safety and well-being of our community.”
Services through the Power On program may include phone consultations, on-site assessments, independent financial analyses of proposed resiliency solutions, energy efficiency recommendations, and contractor support.
The pilot program is open through June 30. Property owners can submit an interest form on the City’s website. Participants will be contacted by an advisor, who will identify the best path for the property. Space is limited and participants are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
