Carson to Honor Cesar Chavez with Free Public Celebration

The City of Carson will host a free Tribute to Cesar E. Chavez, celebrating the life and legacy of the iconic farmworker organizer and co-founder of the United Farm Workers union.

The event, organized by the city’s Community Services, Recreation, and Park Maintenance Department, will feature a guest speaker, live band and performances, and light refreshments. The city will also announce the winners of its essay and poster contests during the program.

The event is slated for 6 p.m., Friday, March 27, Carson Event Center, 801 E. Carson St. Admission is free and open to the public. For information, call (310) 549-3962.

Malibu Marks 25 Years of Chumash Day with Two-Day Powwow

The City of Malibu will celebrate the 25th Annual Chumash Day, Native American Powwow, and Intertribal Gathering over two days at Malibu Bluffs Park. The family-friendly cultural festival features tribal ceremonies, dances, guest performances, Native American artisan vendors, and a food court with five food trucks.

Event hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with Grand Entry at noon on Saturday. There is no on-site parking; complimentary general and ADA parking is available at 23575 and 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, with free shuttle service to and from the park.

The event is slated for 10 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 28–29, Malibu Bluffs Park. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the city’s webpage.

Got a Busted Toaster? Long Beach Will Help You Fix It

Before you toss that broken blender or battered bicycle, the City of Long Beach wants a crack at saving it.

The city’s Department of Energy and Environmental Services is hosting its first Fixit Clinic of 2026, pairing residents with volunteer repair coaches who will help troubleshoot and fix everyday household items on the spot.

Commonly repaired items include electronics, small appliances, clothing, toys, bicycles, and jewelry. Residents may bring one item. The program is hands-on — it is not a drop-off service. To date, Long Beach Fixit Clinics have diverted more than 3,170 pounds of household items from local landfills.

The event is slated for noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 25, at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, 5870 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach. Admission is free and open to the public. For information and preregistration, visit lbcity.info/fixitclinics.

San Gabriel Mayor to Deliver State of the City Address March 24

The City of San Gabriel Mayor Denise Menchaca will deliver the San Gabriel State of the City Address under the theme “San Gabriel: A Living Tapestry.” The annual address will highlight key milestones and outline the mayor’s vision for continued growth, community connection, and cultural cultivation.

The event is slated for Tuesday, March 24, beginning with light refreshments at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation at 7 p.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, 320 South Mission Drive. Community members are invited to attend.

Culver City Seeks Public Input on Sepulveda Boulevard Safety Overhaul

The City of Culver City is continuing work on Sepulveda Connects, a project to improve safety, mobility, and access along the Sepulveda Boulevard corridor. Three proposed design alternatives are now available for public review and comment, each presenting a different approach to transit priority while balancing impacts to existing uses such as traffic and parking.

Residents, business owners, commuters, and visitors are encouraged to attend upcoming public meetings and share feedback.

Design Workshop No. 3 is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Culver City Senior Center Dining Room, 4095 Overland Ave.

A virtual open house on traffic calming options for Sunkist Park is set for Saturday, March 21, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

A fourth design workshop is planned for Thursday, April 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building Garden Room, 4117 Overland Ave.
