Long Beach Seeks Resident Input During National Community Development Week
The City of Long Beach Community Development Department is marking National Community Development Week with a series of outreach events designed to gather resident feedback on how federal housing and community development funds are used locally. Feedback collected during the week will help shape the city’s 2026 HUD Action Plan, which governs the use of funds from the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership Program, and Emergency Solutions Grant programs. In Fiscal Year 2025–2026, Long Beach received approximately $8 million in combined funding through those programs.
A community survey — available in Spanish, Khmer, and Tagalog — is open through May 2. Events during the week include a Civic Plaza information booth and City Council proclamation on April 7, a virtual Action Plan community meeting on April 9, and a community cleanup in West Long Beach on April 11. On April 8, the department will also release new details about its Backyard Builders program, which provides eligible low-income homeowners with 0% interest, 30-year loans of up to $250,000 to construct an accessory dwelling unit.
