Mitchell Announces Pathway Home Operation in Unincorporated Willowbrook

Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell (D-Southwest/Central Los Angeles, including Inglewood, Compton, Carson, Hawthorne, Culver City, portions of South LA) announced last week that LA County’s Pathway Home program brought 45 people experiencing homelessness off the streets of unincorporated Willowbrook into safe interim housing, where they will receive supportive services and other resources to help them transition out of homelessness and into permanent housing.
“Every person brought indoors through LA County’s Pathway Home initiative represents a life moving toward stability and opportunity—and reflects months of outreach to build trust and secure the resources needed to make encampment resolutions like this one possible in our unincorporated Willowbrook community,” said Mitchell. “I’m proud of the ongoing collaboration among County departments, community partners, and outreach teams. We must continue working urgently until every resident has a safe place to call home.”
The LA County Department of Homeless Services and Housing (HSH) collaborated with Mitchell’s office to conduct the Pathway Home operation on April 1 and 2. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), the LA County Sheriff Department’s Homeless Outreach Services Team, and nonprofit service provider HOPICS were essential in providing outreach and building trust with unsheltered residents who accepted offers of interim housing. HOPICS and the service provider PATH will continue to work with residents at the motels operating as their interim housing locations.
The LA County Chief Executive Office and the LA County Departments of Public Health, Mental Health, Public Works, Fire Department, and Animal Care and Control were also critical partners. Caltrans and the County’s Emergency Centralized Response Center also played roles in this operation.
“Collaboration is key to solving homelessness, and this Pathway Home operation in Willowbrook shows exactly what that looks like in practice,” said SHS Director Sarah Mahin. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of our county staff and many community partners, 45 LA County residents are safely inside and on a pathway home.”
Friedman, Schiff, Padilla bring over $1M for Rose Bowl Stadium Upgrades

U.S. Rep. Laura Friedman (D-Burbank, Glendale, West Hollywood, Hollywood) last week joined Rose Bowl Stadium officials, City of Pasadena leaders, and local elected officials to announce that she secured a new, $1,092,000 federal investment to replace and modernize the water and wastewater systems at the Rose Bowl Stadium ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The stadium’s water and wastewater systems are approaching 100 years old, well past their useful life, with aging pipes showing erosion and posing daily safety concerns, including risks to drinking water quality, wastewater backups, and drainage failures. Last year, the Rose Bowl also served as a critical staging area for residents and first responders during the devastating Eaton Fire.
“Last year’s devastating wildfires showed us that the Rose Bowl is more than a stadium — it’s a lifeline for our community when we need it most,” said Friedman. “In two years, billions of people around the world will be watching as Gold Medal matches for Olympic Soccer are played right here in Pasadena. We cannot welcome the world to a stadium running on nearly 100-year-old pipes that could fail. This investment ensures America’s Stadium is ready for its moment on the world stage while reducing the burden on local taxpayers. I will continue to fight to bring our tax dollars home to invest in the infrastructure our communities depend on.”
U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said the funding for the Rose Bowl Stadium will be crucial to replace its water infrastructure ahead of the 2028 Olympics and would not be possible without the partnership of Friedman, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA), House colleagues and community leaders who helped ensure that California receives the resources it deserves.
I’m proud to have fought for and helped deliver hundreds of millions in federal investments to California in my first year in the U.S. Senate,” said Schiff.
This will be the third time the Rose Bowl has hosted the Olympic Games. In 2028, it will host the Gold Medal Semifinals and Finals for both men’s and women’s Olympic Soccer. The Rose Bowl Stadium is an economic engine that creates thousands of jobs and puts the region on the world stage.
Price Lauds Kamlager-Dove for Housing, Transportation Funding

Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price, Jr. (D-Downtown and South Central Los Angeles), joined Mayor Karen Bass in lauding U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Culver City, View Park-Windsor Hills, parts of South LA) in bringing the district nearly $3 million in federal funding for housing and transportation projects.
“One project I’m especially excited about is the Urban Awnings Development at Crocker Street and Slauson Avenue. This project will create 18 units of affordable housing, something our community urgently needs. Even more encouraging, each unit is expected to cost under $400,000, showing that high-quality affordable housing can also be built cost-effectively. While construction has not yet begun, the project has already reached key milestones and is now in its final planning phase,” said Price.
The funding also includes $250,000 for climate control upgrades at Pueblo del Rio public housing. This funding will provide energy-efficient air conditioning units and ceiling fans, helping nearly 1,800 residents stay cool and safe during extreme heat,’ he said.
“I’m deeply grateful to Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove for advocating for these critical investments in South Los Angeles. This is what it looks like when we bring real resources home to support our communities,” said Price.
Gomez Bill Would Block Trump For Signing U.S. Currency

U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Downtown LA, Koreatown, Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock) last week introduced legislation to prohibit the signature of President Donald Trump from appearing on United States currency or securities.
The bill comes after the Trump Administration announced plans to place Donald Trump’s signature on U.S. currency for the first time in American history, ending a tradition that has existed for more than 165 years.
“I introduced this bill because no sitting President should be allowed to use the nation’s currency to personally promote themselves,” said Gomez. “Trump wants to slap his name on buildings, airports, and now the dollar bill, but U.S. currency belongs to the American people, not the President. This is the kind of thing you see from dictators and wannabe strongmen who think the country belongs to them, and I will not just go along with another one of Trump’s vanity projects.”
Under current law, U.S. paper currency includes the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and Treasurer of the United States. Trump’s proposal would remove the Treasurer’s signature and replace it with his own.
The legislation would amend title 31 of the United States Code to prohibit the issuance of United States currency or securities containing the signature of an individual during any period in which that individual is serving as President.
