Bass Announces Curfew

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass

Los Angeles City Mayor Karen Bass yesterday issued a curfew for Downtown Los Angeles from 8 pm to 6 am in the area bounded by the 5, 10 and 110 freeways to the 110 freeway and the 10 freeway to where the 110 freeway and 5 freeway merge..

In announcing the curfew, Bass was joined by elected, law enforcement and business leaders this afternoon to make the announcement.

“I am exercising my mayoral powers to implement a curfew within Downtown Los Angeles to curb bad actors who do not support the immigrant community. If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted,” said Bass. “The raids must end. I thank the Governor for his partnership and especially thank our state and local officers and deputies who are working tirelessly to keep Los Angeles safe.”

In addition to the curfew, Mayor Bass noted that hundreds of officers from police and sheriffs departments from across the region and state are working alongside LAPD through a unified command structure.

Everyone must follow the curfe with limited exceptions including for law enforcement, emergency and medical personnel, residents, people traveling to and from work and credentialed media representatives.

Gomez, Schiff, Barragán demand fed troops leave LA

U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez
U.S. Rep. Nanette Barragán
U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff

US Reps. Jimmy Gomez (D-Downtown LA, Koreatown, Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock) and Nanette Barragán (D-San Pedro, Wilmington, Carson, Compton), along with US Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), and 39 other California Congressional Delegation Representatives yesterday demanded that President Donald Trump immediately withdraw the National Guard and U.S. Marines from Los Angeles.

In a bicameral letter sent, the lawmakers condemn the deployments as an unlawful overreach that bypassed state and local authority and urge the immediate withdrawal of the National Guard and Marines.

“We are writing to express grave concern regarding the deployment of the National Guard and the activation of 700 Marines to Los Angeles. These actions were taken without the consent of California Governor Gavin Newsom and over the objections of local law enforcement. It constitutes a clear violation of constitutional principles and law, and a grave overreach of executive authority,” wrote the lawmakers.

“This deployment does not appear to be motivated by any public safety emergency that could not be dealt with successfully by local authorities. Instead, it coincides with a broader federal enforcement escalation involving mass ICE raids, militarized immigration tactics, and the use of tear gas and riot control methods in civilian areas. These actions undermine civil liberties, destabilize communities, erode public trust in government institutions, and violate the law,” continued the lawmakers.

Inglewood launches Destination Market Program

Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts

Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts and the City of Inglewood yesterday launched the Destination Market Street Façade and Tenant Improvement Program (“Program”) today, a grant program to support the economic growth of small businesses and placemaking in Downtown Inglewood.

The program aims to revitalize and attract new businesses on and around Market Street. The Inglewood City Council selected PCR Finance and Capital (PCR) to serve as the Program Administrator.

The Program kicked off with an informational workshop on Monday night at the Inglewood Senior Center. Property and businesses owners from throughout Inglewood’s Historic Core gathered to hear Butts, and Councilmembers Eloy Morales, Gloria Gray and Dionne Faulk discuss the importance of this investment in Market Street and get details about the application process from City staff and PCR personnel.

Funded entirely through a grant from the State of California, the Program will enable the City to award grants of up to $250,000 to eligible businesses and property owners for improvements including, but not limited to, exterior and interior painting, signage, installation of new lighting, replacement of storefront windows and awnings, ADA compliant improvements, furniture, fixtures and equipment, and hazardous material abatement.

This is the next step in Inglewood’s renaissance,” said Butts. “Inglewood will be the region’s front door, not just for the next Super Bowl, NBA All-Star weekend, and World Cu,p but also for the 2028 Olympic Games and countless other events. Destination Market Street will facilitate investment in our businesses, helping them become preferred destinations for residents and visitors to eat, shop, and play – not just during these events – but every day of the week for years to come.”
