The Citizens for Accountable Leadership (CAL), the Black Women’s Democratic Club, and the Black Los Angeles Young Democrats hosted a meet and greet with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in the Baldwin Hills mansion of business leader Baron Farwel to raise money for the Anti-Recall Campaign against Bass.
A deeply invested crowd of about 100 Bass supporters, including city leaders, advocates, and Angelenos in solidarity who support Bass and believe in protecting Los Angeles’s most vulnerable populations against the national threats of the White House, attended the event.
Assemblymember Sade Elhawary (D-South Los Angeles) opened the evening by expressing her support for Bass, setting an empowering tone.
Psychologist and activist Dr. Cheyenne Bryant joined the panel, reminding guests throughout the evening to make a collective impact by scanning a QR code to make financial contributions to the Mayor’s reelection campaign.
“The last time we hosted an event here, we raised $88,000,” Bass noted, signaling both the power and responsibility of grassroots fundraising.
Bass was also vocal about President Donald Trump’s recently unveiled homeless policy, which she believes targets major urban cities like Los Angeles, leaving communities under attack.
“I’m afraid that one morning, I’ll wake up and they’re storming Skid Row,” Bass said.
“One thing about LA,” she added, “if you come after one of us, you come after all of us.”
Bass also reflected on the recent Palisades fires, highlighting the city’s rapid response and community resilience. “We’ve issued over 200 permits to help people rebuild their homes,” she emphasized.
The event ended with a Q&A, which allowed guests to ask questions, connect, and learn more about the progress she made in her first term.
The atmosphere reflected unity and hope for a brighter future. Guests were treated to hot appetizers and an open bar in a warm environment, reflecting the strength and elegance of the community. Guests dressed in tuxedos and business attire pledged donations and reaffirmed their commitment to Bass’s leadership.
