Compton Mayor’s Race: Hub City Legend’s Lonzo Williams Interviews Bishop L.J. Guillory

Hub City Legend founder Lonzo Williams interviews Compton mayoral candidate Bishop L.J. Guillory.

The race for Mayor of Compton is shaping up as one of the most competitive contests on the June 2 ballot, with a crowded field vying to lead one of Los Angeles County’s most storied cities. Incumbent Mayor Emma Sharif is seeking reelection against a field of challengers that will be introduced to LACP readers in the weeks ahead.

Los Angeles County Politics (LACP) will be featuring a candidate interview each week in the run-up to June 2, in partnership with the Hub City Legend, Compton’s community news outlet. Conducting the interviews is Hub City Legend founder and publisher Lonzo Williams — known across the hip hop world as the Godfather of West Coast Hip Hop.

A Compton native, Lonzo opened the legendary nightclub Eve After Dark in 1979, where he launched the careers of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and N.W.A., formed the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, and helped define the sound that would change music forever. His legacy is preserved in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Today, he channels those same deep roots in Compton into the Hub City Legend, keeping the community informed and engaged. This week, Lonzo sits down with mayoral candidate Bishop L.J. Guillory. We’re proud to bring these conversations to our readers.
