Sherman hosts town hall

U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman

U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks, Encino, Studio City, Valley Village) on Saturday welcomed over 1,000 residents of California’s 32nd Congressional District to an in-person Town Hall at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

The event drew a packed and passionate crowd as Sherman addressed critical issues impacting both the district and the nation. Topics ranged from the chaos and recklessness of the Trump administration’s agenda, its dismantling of critical services — from Social Security to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – our recovery efforts from the Los Angeles wildfires and much more.

“I am proud to represent a district that cares deeply about the future of our democracy and isn’t afraid to speak out,” said Sherman. “Our challenges are serious, but our passion and involvement are stronger.”

During the Town Hall, Sherman requested input from residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts and concerns.

Among the results, 44% of constituents thought it better to Vote “No” on all of Speaker Johnson and President Trump’s proposed legislation while 42% said it is better to negotiate with Republicans but only vote for a bill Democrats think is good.

Jones welcomes new Signal Hill police chief

Signal Hill Mayor Keir Jones

Signal Hill Mayor Keir Jones (D) last week welcomed Captain Brad Kenneally as the municipality’s next chief of police.

With more than three decades of dedicated service in law enforcement, Captain Kenneally brings extensive operational experience, strategic leadership, and a strong commitment to community-based policing to his new role.

“We are thrilled to welcome Captain Kenneally as the 18th Chief of Police for the City of Signal Hill,” said Jones. “His proven leadership, unwavering integrity, and deep commitment to community-focused policing make him the right person to lead our department into the future. Captain Kenneally brings not only years of experience, but also a genuine passion for service and the ability to inspire meaningful change. We’re confident that under his leadership, the Signal Hill Police Department will continue to grow strong and more connected to the community we serve.”

Kenneally began his law enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for 28 years. In 2024, he joined the Signal Hill Police Department, quickly immersing himself in all aspects of department operations.

Padilla, Schiff Push Trump to reconsider student visa revocations

U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff
U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla

U.S. Senators Alex Padilla, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Immigration Subcommittee, and Adam Schiff (both D-Calif.), joined 34 Democrats yesterday in pressing the Trump Administration to reconsider recent decisions to revoke student visas.

In their letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Todd Lyons, the Senators urged the Administration to undo unlawful student visa revocations, citing a recent reversal of some student record terminations.

“We recently learned that your agencies have been revoking student visas and terminating Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records across the country. These actions to end student status reflected an unannounced change in policy and were inconsistent with existing laws, regulations, policies, and agency guidance governing the maintenance and termination of student status—that is why we welcomed the news late last week that in response to litigation around the country, ICE has reversed these SEVIS terminations,” wrote the Senators. “We now urge you to undo other actions to end student status that are inconsistent with such laws, regulations, and agency guidance and ensure that all future actions to end student status fully comply with the law.”

The Senators continued by highlighting the lack of reasoning provided in many of these visa revocations after the Office of Student Exchange and Visitor Programs (SEVP) within ICE terminated at least 4,736 student visa holders’ SEVIS records.
